Radiation Detectors Overview
Radiation detection technology is fundamental to many fields of science, medicine and industry. From monitoring environmental radioactivity to imaging inside the human body, the ability to detect and measure ionising radiation with precision relies on a range of specialised detector types. At Advatech UK we offer three main families of radiation detectors: scintillation detectors, nuclear radiation sensors and Medipix/Timepix hybrid pixel imagers.
The choice of detector depends on several factors: the type of radiation to be measured (gamma, beta, alpha, neutrons, X-rays), the energy range, the required energy resolution, the count rate, environmental conditions and budget. Scintillation detectors offer an excellent balance of efficiency and cost for most applications, while CZT-based detectors provide superior energy resolution for gamma spectroscopy without the need for cryogenic cooling.
Our detectors are used worldwide by academic research groups, government laboratories, nuclear facilities, medical institutions and industrial companies. Each product category below links to detailed information, specifications and ordering options. If you are unsure which detector technology is right for your application, we are happy to provide technical guidance.
