GSO Scintillation Crystals
Gadolinium Orthosilicate - Gd₂SiO₅(Ce) is a effective all round gamma-ray absorber. It is referred to both as GSO and GSO(Ce), it is only available with Ce doping.

GSO scintillator crystals have:
  • Mechanically robust characteristics and are non-hygroscopic
  • Good energy resolution up to 150ºC
  • Good radiation hardness
  • No intrinsic radiation background

GSO scintillator crystals have the following issues which should be noted. They:
  • Have have limited light output

Gadolinium Orthosilicate - GSO scintillator crystals are useful in diverse applications such as:
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET)
  • Geological logging
  • Specialist applications in high energy, nuclear, space and medical physics
